Strange tale involving money&greed

I had a fantastic trip in Bangladesh, was great to see all the family at my brother's wedding reception. Nothing unusual so far.

However what followed was a tad disconcerting to say the least. Its a tale involving deception, intrigue and any other superlative that you can throw. The names of all concerned, I've kept out to spare the family.

This tale begins with a man and his family making preparations to head back home after a month away in Bangladesh. As was usual, the man planned to take his family to a local holy man for blessings.

On this occasion rather than going with his family he set off with his brother in law. Who convinced the man to see the holy man before the whole family went together.

Thinking that there would be no harm in visiting the holy man a day beforehand, they set off. The journey had not gone over 15mins when they found themselves surrounded by men wielding machetes.

You'd think that your survival instincts would kick in at moments like this. Far from it, the man yelled at his brother in law to hit the 'gas' to speed away from their assailants. Instead the brother in law stops the car. Within seconds they find themselves sitting in the car with the assailants.

The men are blindfolded in spite of their protests. And taken away. The man's brother in law is released with the kidnappers demands. He was dumped outside the place where he was picked up.

He headed home and to his family who were beside themselves imploring and begging the man to reveal what had transpired. It was at this point the man removed his jacket to reveal an explosive device that was strapped to him.

He repeated the kidnappers demands, found time to use the loo and grab a quick bite before leaving with whatever cash the family could muster.

The man went off, presumably to a prearranged location to meet up with the kidnappers. Within two days the brother in law was released, but as the full demands were not met. The kidnappers kept hold of the man's brother in law.

And it remained like that for a month, during which time the man's family contacted the law enforcement agencies. No news of the man was forthcoming despite the relentless inquiries.

That was until two days ago when a call from the hospital alerted the family, that a man fitting the description of the missing man was under observation.

So what does this all mean? Greed can affect anyone. Forget blood ties, when it comes to money and making a quick buck. A person has enough motivation to destroy what family ties there maybe. So what proof is there that the man was responsible for his brother in law's incarceration?

Like I said, I've had to alter the story in order to get into the public domain, without compromising the family. The follow up investigation is going to make for an interesting read!
