The current uproar regarding building works to be carried out in the vicinity of the mosque, highlights the sensitive nature. Muslim antipathy towards any prospective building works are not unfounded. Ever since Jerusalem fell into Israeli hands, there have been countless attempts to destroy the mosque. One of the most damaging attempts occurred in 1969, when a terrorist Jew managed to enter the mosque and start a fire. There is evidence from the time suggesting that the Israeli authorities were less than keen to put the fire out.
The mosque stands as a beacon for all Muslims, and especially the Palestinians, letting them know that once this land that is occupied, was theirs. For the right-wing Jew, it is reminder that no matter what they may claim, Islam has and will always leave it's mark.
I was going to write this piece as something highlighting the over sensitive nature of Muslims, and how Muslims must stop being so counter productive. However the more I read, the more depressed I became. Instead I realised that the tactics the Zionist so quickly (and rightly) denounces when used by the Palestinian freedom fighters, are the very same tactics employed by the Jewish state to drive fear into the Palestinian people, to weaken their resolve so that they may leave Palestine to be completely lost to the Zionist.
Harsh? Maybe so, but it's what everything that have I read and seen, that has lead me to believe it to be the case...
